A SLICE OF THE ACTION FOR STATESIDE FOODS

Challenge

For one of the UK’s largest pizza manufacturers, Stateside Foods Plc, increasing the efficiency of its supply chain from the company’s manufacturing facility to supermarkets was fundamental for business operations. With all products needing to be shipped at precise temperatures and to exact delivery windows, there was no room for a single error. Courier Express Refrigerated Transport Ltd provided the perfect solution to meet the client’s requirements and overcome the challenges faced.

With fresh pizzas transported to customers throughout the UK, seven days a week, from their state-of-the-art 43,000 square metre food production facility in Westhoughton, Lancashire, Stateside Foods Plc had a necessity for a reliable and efficient temperature controlled courier. Like many food manufacturers, Stateside Foods Plc has to work to extremely tight delivery windows to ensure products are collected and delivered on time to major supermarket regional distribution centres. Failure to meet these windows, would result in products not being shipped to stores throughout the UK, and ultimately a substantial loss in revenue and reputation.

Stateside Foods Plc required same day delivery services for both palletised products to leading supermarkets, as well as for samples delivered to leading retailers during tendering processes. The importance of meeting delivery times – especially for the samples – was imperative as successfully transported pizzas could lead to millions of pounds of revenue from new business contracts.

Equally fundamental for the world leader in pizza production was flexibility. The quantity of products carried varied from job-to-job, with deliveries ranging from a small selection of branded pizzas to large shipments of food produce (10-20 boxes). The locations of deliveries were also wide-ranging, with some products supplied to a single location, whilst others needed to be shipped to a variety of delivery points across the UK – all within a same day/next day window. The leading food manufacturer had been let down by a temperature controlled transport provider previously utilised. This had not only led to failed deliveries, but also damaged relationships with customers who were expecting the delivery of food products. With this in mind, reliability was pivotal.
